About
Patch Farm is located in the small town of Denmark in the lakes region of Maine. Comprised of 20(ish) acres of field and 50(ish) acres of forest we currently grow a wide variety of organically certified vegetables. While our current list of veggies is made up of mostly annuals, our real passion lies in storage crops and perennials. Over the coming years we will be adding a plethora of woody perennials (apple, cherry, pear trees... blueberries, raspberries... nut trees and more - oh my!) and perennial veggie crops. Additionally, we have a flock of laying hens, pigs for pork and a small herd of dairy goats. By diversifying our fields we hope to truly create a sustainable farm - sustainable as a business, for our bellies, and our community. We're starting small but have big plans for our "little" farm in the future.
BrennaMae hails from Minnesota (though if you ask anyone in her family they will tell you she is "9th generation Mainer!" as the Googins family landed in Old Orchard Beach eons ago), while Brandon's roots are here in Maine. After a most wonderful meet-cute in Massachusetts, we decided to try our hand at the West Coast and found ourselves getting our farmin' feet wet in the great state of Washington. At Sunbreak Farm, a 1 acre mixed-veg operation, we learned everything from daily operations to tending seed crops - and more. As BrennaMae finished up an agricultural degree at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, we toiled away our hours dreaming of our own farm back in Maine. After a quick jaunt to New Zealand (a time we call "the year of endless summers") to WWOOF for four months, we returned to the northeast to settle and find a patch of land to call our own. For the next few years we spent time learning the art of tractor farming, the very different art of no-till farming, dug our hands into clay soil and into sandy soil, focused on education farming and permaculture, and met many amazing folks along the way. In 2014, primed and ready, we started Patch Farm. That year we also welcomed our daughter, Ainsley, into the world. In 2015 we moved to our land in Denmark, Maine, added a smattering of goats, chickens and pigs and were joined by Nancy, BrennaMae's mother. Nancy comes to us from Minnesota and one can often find her tending our perennial herbs or doing some beekeeping in her hives. In our (limited) spare time we love to cook, eat, listen to MPBN, dance to silly tunes with Ainsley, take photos and read children's books over and over and over and over and over...
